Sub Tuum Praesidium

We fly to thy patronage, O holy Mother of God; Despise not our petitions in our necessities, but deliver us always from all dangers, O glorious and blessed Virgin. Amen.

Chaplain dismissed for hosting Rosary and Benediction Service

Holy Priest: Fr. Mark Morris/facebook GCU Catholic Community

Glasgow Caledonian University's Catholic society said it was “extremely disappointed” at the (firing of Fr Mark Morris). “It is frankly abhorrent that a Catholic Priest would be dismissed from his post as a Catholic chaplain for merely reaffirming the teachings of the Catholic faith,” the GCU Catholic Community said.

“It seems that Glasgow Caledonian University have a very warped understanding of ‘Equality and Diversity’, whereby they have permitted absolutely no diversity of opinion whatsoever. We are very sad to see that the opinions and beliefs of Catholics are not valued or respected at the university chaplaincy,” they added. Catholic Herald

What did Fr. Mark Morris do that warranted his dismissal?

Fr Mark Morris offered a Rosary, Litany and Benediction at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Balornock, Glasgow on Monday night.

Glasgow Caledonian University sacked him as Catholic chaplain the following day, saying his views were at odds with those of the educational institution.Catholic Herald

Who determines whether or not a chaplain is qualified (or not) to serve a community? The sponsoring community, or a secular institution that does not possess the competence to judge a candidate's qualifications relevant to his community?

The Catholic Community at GCU would like to express our full support and solidarity with Fr. Mark Morris at this time. He is a faithful priest who has served our community with joy, dignity, and a smiling face for many years now. We are extremely disappointed that the University have decided to dismiss Fr. Morris. It is frankly abhorrent that a Catholic Priest would be dismissed from his post as a Catholic chaplain for merely reaffirming the teachings of the Catholic faith.

The Church is very clear that any sexual acts committed outside the context of marriage are sinful. [...]

In his book, The Last Exorcist, the late Father Gabriele Amorth records an entire conversation with the devil in which he explains to the priest why he is so angry at the Blessed Mother and what impact the Rosary has upon him.

Aleteia is reporting on this excerpt from Father Amorth’s book in which the devil is forced to confess the reasons for his antipathy toward the Mother of God and her Rosary.

Father Amorth: “What are the virtues of the Madonna that make you angriest?”

Demon: “She makes me angry because she is the humblest of all creatures, and because I am the proudest; because she is the purest of all creatures, and I am not; because, of all creatures, she is the most obedient to God, and I am a rebel!”

Father Amorth: “Tell me the fourth characteristic of the Madonna that makes you so afraid of her that you are more afraid when I say the Madonna’s name than when I say the name of Jesus Christ!”

Demon: “I am more afraid when you say the Madonna’s name, because I am more humiliated by being beaten by a simple creature, than by Him…”

Father Amorth: “Tell me the fourth characteristic of the Madonna that makes you most angry!”

Demon: “Because she always defeats me, because she was never compromised by any taint of sin!”

Father Amorth adds: “During an exorcism, Satan told me, through the possessed person, ‘Every Hail Mary of the Rosary is a blow to the head for me; if Christians knew the power of the Rosary, it would be the end of me!’”
